Targeted Audience

The targeted audience for our thriller sequence is around the ages of 16-22, mainly because its main cast is in that age group and because the audience can relate easily to them. However themes like obsession, stalk, and the feel of being watched is recognized and easily relatable by all age groups especially 35 to 45 year old parents of teens.

The general character of the targeted audience consists of young folks who enjoy subtle and realistic thrillers which are likely to happen in everyday life. The fact that these storylines are simple disturbs the audience even after the movie has ended. People who are looking for this kind of thrill usually tend to go for mysterious and psychological thrillers such as Hitchcock's Rear Window, or Psycho, The Shining, and Sleuth. Examples of more recent films I’d say The Silence of the Lambs and Hard Candy are suitable.

Thriller opening sequence

For our final opening sequence idea we wanted to go with a storyboard which would allow us to show diverse shooting skills, so we decided to go with a swimming pool theme in which we could have some underwater shots.
The storyline is about a girl training in the swimming pool in her house and she’s being watched by a mysterious outsider, whose wearing dark clothing and a hoodie which covers his face. The audience can instantly tell that she is training professionally by the fact that she is constantly checking the timer. There are tension builders such as match cuts, disturbing levels of sound, and also misleaders such as a person walking in the room who we assume is the stalker, yet turns out to be the dad.
We are also using a mind provoking method, as done in the thriller "Don't Look Now", which was directed by Nicolas Roeg, by having the initial shot just of the water which indicates danger and the threatening factor of the water registers in the viewers minds.
